Full Thrust vs Starmada vs Firestorm...

We had the opportunity to sit down and work out what we wanted to play, spacewise, this week, and it looks like we have a winner...

Firestorm: Armada is out because a) we're not keen on the ships, b) there're no quick start rules, and c) there seems to be no customisation.

Still put off by Full Thrust's relative unfriendliness, it looks like we're now going to be playing Starmada: Admiralty Edition. Hex-based movement should make things easier, custom fleets - and custom weapons - seem to be a doddle too. Still planning on using Full Thrust ships though...

  1. I'm curious - can you take the miniatures space battles and transplant them into other games, like, say, Star Wars? You know, for those epic Star Wars space battles.

  2. Absolutely! Full Thrust and Starmada are both essentially toolkits for building whatever you want - and giving it a points value for balance.

I know Starmada has sourcebooks in print for various Star Trek fleets. There's no reason why you couldn't run a Star Wars campaign under either system, provided you can get minis and are happy to stat them up yourself. Starmada comes with a spreadsheet to crunch the numbers, so you should be fine from the custom DnD stat blocks I've seen you make...

  3. Hey Tourq - we finally played and it was a blast! I'd recommend dusting off those Star Wars minis...
